On June 14, the UCIS announced that they are going to allow migrants with pending U visa applications to receive work permits. The U visa allows migrants who are victims of a crime to apply for permanent residence after three years in the country. However, high demand has caused this wait to increase to 5-6 years.

U visa holders will be able to receive work permits and get deferred action status. Migrants must have a pending application or filling a new u visa application. USCIS will consider an application complete if the applicant filled the form I-918 AND I-918-B, presented a law enforcement certification, submitted a personal statement describing the abuse, and immigration must have received the results of the biometrics.
